  • Learning How to Learn - Week1
Ex: Steven Jobs and Elon Musk.
    • Think mode: focus, and diffuse.
    • After leaning and sleeping brain form many synapses on the dendrite in your brain that is how your brain upgrade after a sleep or nap.
    • Procrastination - The Pomodoro Technique: an intense 25 minutes followed by 5 minutes relaxation or a little reward.
    • Memory - long term memory and working memory are two major memory systems. Research has shown that if you try to glue things into your memory by repeating something twenty times in one evening, for example, it won’t stick nearly as well as if you practice it the same number of times over several days.
    • Sleep - When you sleep, your brain cells shrink, which allows toxins to be more easily washed away.

  • Tuesdays with Morrie
第四週談到死亡, Morrie的觀點是沒人會接受自己死亡的事實, 一旦接受死亡"you might not be as ambitious as you are”.

    • “Once you lean how to die, you learn how to live.” - Morrie, The Fourth Tuesday We Talk About Death, p82.
    • “This is part of what a family is about, not just love, but letting others know there’s someone who is watching out for them.” - Morrie, The Fifth Tuesday We Talk About Family, p92.
  • Learning How to Learn - Week2
Recall is a way to connect mini-chunks and help learn new materials.
Overlearning cannot help learn deeply and may build a fence which is blocked out creativity.

    • One common mistake that learners make is to refuse to move on in their reading until they fully understand the material in the book in front of them.
    • Chunks are best built up with: focused attention, understanding(of the basic idea), and practice(build a context from chunks).
    • Deliberate practice: Focusing intently on the parts of the problem that are more difficult to you.

  • Be lucky - it’s an easy skill to learn
The difference between lucky and unlucky person - try everything.

  • What does O(log n) mean exactly?
The most common attributes of logarithmic running-time function are that:
the choice of the next element on which to perform some action is one of several possibilities, and only one will need to be chosen.
    or
the elements on which the action is performed are digits of n

  • Learning How to Learn - Week3
Procrastination 是天性, what are cues of procrastination? find them and face them.
Tackling procrastination: TODO list, delay rewards, backup plans, be confidence and belief your system.
Using memory tricks to improve the long term memory. Group memory with familiar things.
For long term memory, repeating and practicing in one day is a bad idea.

Week12 (03/24)

  • Learning How to Learn - Week4(Final)
No need for genius envy. Everyone has different gifts. When one door closes, another opens. Keep your chin up and your eye on the open door.
    The Impostor syndrome
About Right/Left hemisphere,
Thinking, slow and fast.

  • Tuesdays with Morrie
關於年紀的恐懼及忌妒心都是有原因的, find it and let it go.
The satisfaction of lives not come from money, but because of you are needed. And understanding why you are needed is important.
People always say, “Oh, if I were young again.” He smiled. “You know what that reflects? Unsatisfied lives. Unfulfilled lives. Lives that haven’t found meaning.” - Morrie, The Seventh Tuesday We Talk About the Fear of Aging, p118.
“If you’re trying to show off for people at the top, forget it. They will look down at you anyhow. And if you’re trying to show off for people at the bottom, forget it. The will only envy you. Status will get you nowhere. Only an open heart will allow you to float equally between everyone.” - Morrie, The Eighth Tuesday We Talk About Money, p128.
